KARACHI: Syed Murad Ali Shah announced that the Sindh government has disbursed Rs146.77 million under its targeted fuel subsidy programme, benefiting 3,976 vehicles so far, as part of efforts to ease the impact of rising fuel prices on the transport sector.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the CM House, the chief minister was informed that nearly 12,000 vehicles have been identified as eligible under the scheme, jointly funded by the federal and provincial governments. However, over 5,000 cases remain under review due to issues such as CNIC mismatches, missing bank details, and data inconsistencies.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, and other senior officials.

Expressing concern over delays, the chief minister directed relevant departments to expedite disbursements and resolve pending cases on a priority basis. He emphasized that genuine transporters must receive timely relief, warning against delays caused by incomplete or inaccurate data.

Officials briefed the meeting that the Transport Department has initiated key digital reforms, including automation of motor vehicle inspection (MVI), Provincial Transport Authority (PTA), and Regional Transport Authority (RTA) systems, along with integration with Excise, Traffic Police, and the National Highways & Motorway Police.

The chief minister appreciated these initiatives and called for further strengthening of the digital ecosystem to enhance transparency, efficiency, and regulatory oversight.

He also stressed the need for stronger coordination among transport, excise, and law enforcement agencies to ensure effective implementation of the subsidy programme and broader transport sector reforms.
